Abstract
Malaria comes from a medieval term of the Italian language referring to bad air (malaria) which was believed to be the cause of the disease resulting from miasmas released from marshy areas.
Malaria has also been defined, for this reason, paludism. It is a parasitosis caused by protozoa of the genus Plasmodium.
