Abstract
Nowadays, millions of people travels from country to country because of work or tourism; however, international travels might represent a risk for traveller’s health.
The aim of this paper is to describe the activities of travel medicine centre, and to show the access data of the travel medicine unit USL Umbria 1, Perugia.
Methods: A narrative review has been conducted, as well as a descriptive analysis of the access data (January 2016- December 2016) of the travel medicine unit USL Umbria 1, Perugia.
Results: During the study period, 891 subjects (47% women, mean age 35,3 ± 0,6 years) came to the travel medicine unit USL Umbria 1, Perugia. Pre-travelling counselling, vaccination and pharmacological preventive treatment.
Conclusions: It is important to improve general population’s awareness regarding travel medicine centres, considering that pre-travelling counselling is extremely important to protect travellers and the native population.
Health care workers should be updated in order to increase the efficacy of the pre-travelling counselling.
